11.4 Death of Spouse After Retirement – Spousal Substitution

If you were married on your Retirement Date and selected a Joint Annuity with your Spouse as Joint Annuitant and your Spouse subsequently dies and you remarry, you may substitute your new Spouse as your Joint Annuitant. The change will take effect two years after the date the Pension Trust receives your application, provided you are still living at the end of the two-year qualification period, and you submit the following documents:

  • former Spouse's death certificate;
  • new Spouse's birth certificate; and
  • certificate of marriage to new Spouse.
