Eligibility

This benefit is only available to working participants considered "Eligible Employees". No retirees or dependents are eligible.

Basic Benefit Description

Time Loss Benefits provide a $100 benefit for each week of total disability as defined by the Plan. You receive a prorated benefit for partial weeks of disability.

Definition

"Total Disability" or "Totally Disabled" means that, as a result of an injury or illness, a participant is absent from work, unable to engage in usual duties at work, and is performing no other work of any kind for wage or profit.

Benefits Begin

Benefits begin with the first day of a Total Disability resulting from an injury or with the eighth day of a Total Disability resulting from an illness.

Benefits End

Benefits end after the maximum period of 26 weeks has been paid or as soon as the participant is no longer Totally Disabled as defined.

Repeat Periods of Disability

A new (repeat) period of benefits can occur after the participant becomes disabled again but has been back to work:

  • after 30 calendar days back to work for a total disability resulting from the same cause as the previous period

  • after one day back to work for a disability resulting from a different cause.

Taxability of Benefits

This benefit is subject to both Social Security tax (FICA) and to income tax.
