08/22/08 - Free Prostate Cancer Screenings
Alaska Urological Associates and Alaska Regional Hospital partner to save lives

August 21, 2008--In recognition of prostate cancer awareness month, Alaska Urological Associates and Alaska Regional will offer free prostate cancer screenings in mid-September.  Prostate cancer is a leading cause of cancer death in men. It may be survivable when detected early, and the only way to detect it in the early stages is through screening.

According to the Prostate Cancer Education Council, men should get a baseline PSA test at age 40 and annual screenings starting at age 45. Men 40 and older with a family history of prostate cancer should be tested annually.

Appointments can be made by calling 276-1474.  The free screenings will take place at Alaska Urological Associates' Anchorage office on Alaska Regional's campus (1200 Airport Heights, Suite 101) on the following dates:

Saturday, September 13, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Monday, September 15, 4 - 8 p.m.
Tuesday, September 16, 4 - 8 p.m.
Thursday, September 18, 4 - 8 p.m.
